Retriever Training Programs

RCA offers training for retriever owners and handlers at every level, from first puppy obedience class to advanced field-trial competition.

Beginner obedience

Basic obedience classes teach you and your puppy or young dog the foundation commands. Consistency and repetition are emphasized. Obedience is the prerequisite for everything else — hunt tests, field trials, and bird hunting with your dog.

Hunt test and field trial classes

RCA runs retriever classes that build the specific skills needed for Junior and Senior hunt-test stakes, and for Derby and Qualifying field-trial stakes. Seasoned members mentor newer handlers all the way through to the All-Age (Amateur and Open) level.

Professional clinics and seminars

RCA brings visiting professional retriever trainers to Alaska for workshops and clinics, based on what our members ask for. These are open to members.
